Alan Shearer claims Luke Shaw would be the ONLY Manchester United star to get into a combined Red Devils and Liverpool XI. The two fierce rivals come together on Sunday afternoon in what is turning into a huge game.

Ruben Amorim's side are in dire need of three points after their woeful start to the season, while Liverpool come into the clash off the back of three consecutive defeats. Despite that, many would still fancy the reigning Premier League champions at Anfield on Sunday.

And it appears that Shearer agrees with that emphatically, having named his combined XI between the two sides, with just a solitary United star making the cut. Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson is named between the sticks and is joined in the side by Liverpool teammates Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley.

Red Devils’ defender Luke Shaw is selected at left-back despite huge competition from Milos Kerkez and Andrew Robertson. The England man has started every game for United so far this season.

It’s a similar theme in midfield, with Liverpool dominating. Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai have all been selected by Shearer.

That means that United captain Bruno Fernandes has been left out entirely despite arguably having been the Red Devils' best player over the past few seasons. Shearer’s combined XI is also exclusively Liverpool when it comes to the team’s attack.

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah is of course named in the teamm despite his early season struggles. He is joined by Dutchman Cody Gakpo .

The final inclusion in the side is Liverpool’s summer signing Hugo Ekitike after his electric start to life at Anfield. That will of course see United’s own summer additions Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all ruled out.

It also means there is no place for £125million star Alexander Isak - perhaps not a huge surprise given his Newcastle allegiance.

Speaking to Betfair about the game, Shearer said: “Liverpool v Man United is always big because of the size of both clubs and former players will always tell you that the fixture is huge and one they look out for which means so much to both sets of fans and players.

Who will win between Liverpool and Man United? Share your predictions in the comments below

“Because of the situation and hype around both clubs for different reasons; Liverpool have lost three on the spin which no one saw coming and Man United being the way they are, there's no doubt there is extra spice to this game. It's a game that both teams have to go and win for different reasons.

“International breaks are always tricky because as a manager and club, you want to sit and work or go on the training ground and work on what's gone wrong but it's difficult when you've got so many international players away. It would've been a tricky two weeks for Slot and Amorim.

“We don't know who will come back fit, who will come back at a certain time, are they going to come back on Thursday or Friday? That's always tough. If Slot has a full squad to pick from then it wouldn't surprise me if he went back again to what worked for him again last season, particularly in such a volatile fixture.”

Alan Shearer’s combined XI: Alisson; Bradley, Van Dijk, Konate, Shaw, Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai, Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo.
