Andre Onana agrees Trabzonspor loan switch after Manchester United struggles
Cameroon international set for season-long move to Turkish Super Lig after arrival of Senne Lammens at Old Trafford
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is set to join Trabzonspor on loan until the end of the season.
Onana, who hasn’t played at all in the Premier League so far this season, has agreed personal terms with the Turkish Super Lig side ahead of a move that includes no option to buy.
Reports state that the Cameroon international will earn a higher salary at Trabzonspor, who will also pay bonuses and a signing-on fee.
Onana has fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim and was at fault for both goals as United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the second round by fourth-tier Grimsby last month.
Amorim has opted to start Turkish goalkeeper Altay Bayindir ahead of Onana in the Premier League so far this term despite a series of shaky performances, with veteran Tom Heaton also still at the club.
United have also brought in 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for an initial £18.1million fee as Amorim looks to move on from Onana, who was signed for £47m from Inter Milan under Amorim’s predecessor Erik ten Hag two years ago.
Onana’s imminent departure means Amorim will have to decide whether to stick with Bayindir, whose mistake nearly cost United a first win of the season against newly-promoted Burnley before the international break, or hand Lammens his debut at the Etihad Stadium in Sunday’s Manchester derby.
