Nottingham Forest have moved swiftly to replace Nuno Espirito Santo as Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as his successor, j ust months after his Tottenham Hotspur dismissal. The City Ground club have named their replacement with another former North London head coach.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Portuguese tactician was dismissed from his position despite the return of the Premier League days away. Forest have won one, drew one and lost one of their opening three games and sit mid-table, however pressure has been building on Nuno after reports of a rift with Evangelos Marinakis and new sporting director, Edu.
They went into the international break in 10th on the back of a sobering 3-0 defeat at home to West Ham United - who ended a torrid run of results with their surprise away win at the European hopefuls.
Nuno guided Forest to European qualification as they finished seventh in the table.
However, their UEFA Conference League spot was upgraded after Crystal Palace lost their appeal against being demoted to the competition for multi-club ownership reasons, despite winning the FA Cup, allowing Forest to take up their position in the Europa League.
Postecoglou will look to defend the crown he won with Spurs, after their dramatic win over Manchester United in May, after confirming an immediate return to the club following his dismissal in light of the European success.
Now he will be preparing his players for a stern test against Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal, with the Greek-Australian manager making an immediate return to North London.
He will officially be back in the dugout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on December 13 as he will look to get one over on his former employers.
Forest will be on the road in the first four matches of the 60-year-old's tenure with Swansea City in the Carabao Cup, Burnley and Real Betis to come before Sunderland visit the City Ground at the end of September.
After news of Postecoglou's appointment, Marinakis said in a statement: “We are bringing a coach to the club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies.
"His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.
"After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies.
"Ange has the credentials and the track-record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey."
