Arsene Wenger says this year is different for Arsenal as Mikel Arteta's squad has never been in a stronger position to win trophies.

The Gunners sit top of the Premier League standings after eight games, three points clear of Manchester City and four ahead of champions Liverpool .

Arsenal are also just one of three teams to boast a perfect record so far in the league phase of the Champions League, having beaten Athletic Club, Olympiacos and Atletico Madrid without conceding a goal.

Wenger, speaking on beIN SPORTS ahead of Arsenal's 4-0 win over Atletico, was asked if the Gunners were genuine title contenders. He replied: "Yes, without any hesitation.

"You might say that I say that every year but I believe this year they are really equipped to deal with any problems.

"When they lost Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka last season it was too much but this year you have [Noni] Madueke... [Eberechi] Eze can replace [Martin] Odegaard this year, you have [Gabriel] Martinelli, [Leandro] Trossard.

"At the back they have [Cristhian] Mosquera, down the flanks and at the back they have replacements. [Myles] Lewis-Skelly doesn't get in the team at the moment and he's in the English national team. They have the most complete squad.

"Compare them with Liverpool , I watched them finish the game against Chelsea and they had [Dominik] Szoboszlai at right-back and [Ryan] Gravenberch was centre back. Arsenal would not be in that kind of position."
