Arsenal favourites to win Premier League title as Liverpool's poor form continues

Arsenal are now odds-on favourites to win their first Premier League title since 2003, having climbed to the top of the table over the weekend. The Gunners secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over West Ham at the Emirates, heading into the October international break with a one-point lead. Mikel Arteta's side kept yet another clean sheet, maintaining an impressive defensive record with just three goals conceded in seven matches.

Arsenal had already moved into favouritism after last week's win against Newcastle, but their latest triumph—combined with a second consecutive league defeat for reigning champions and pre-season favourites Liverpool—has strengthened their position as title favourites. Liverpool slipped from the top spot for the first time this season after a dramatic 2-1 loss to Chelsea, courtesy of Estevao's stoppage-time winner, following a similar last-minute defeat at Crystal Palace. As a result, Liverpool have drifted to 11/4 to retain their title, just ahead of Manchester City, who have bounced back from a slow start by winning three of their last four league games.

Betfred spokesperson Robert Ford said: “A successive league defeat for Liverpool and another win for Arsenal over the weekend has resulted in The Gunners being cut to odds-on 10/11 favourites to win the Premier League this season.

“Mikel Arteta’s side have navigated a difficult start to the season on paper to top the table after the opening seven games. Their latest victory resulted in them having their odds slashed from 5/4, whilst second-placed Liverpool’s chances have taken a blow in the market as they’ve been pushed out to 11/4 from 13/8.

“Two defeats in their opening three games had Manchester City out at 12/1 to win the Premier League, but with ten points from their following four league games, Pep Guardiola’s men are now at 4/1.

“Chelsea, the closest team in the odds to the leading trio, are still big outsiders at 25/1 despite their victory over the Champions on Saturday.”

Chelsea, who also beat Liverpool last weekend, are now generally priced at 25/1—out from 9/1 at the start of the campaign—after an inconsistent opening to the season. Meanwhile, Tottenham sit third in the table after a solid first seven games under Thomas Frank, but Spurs remain outsiders at 40/1 to win the title.
