Bayern Munich equal European record with victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach

Another three points taken by Bayern Munich from their Matchday 8 encounter away to Borussia Mönchengladbach saw head coach Vincent Kompany’s side equal the record for most consecutive wins at the start of a season across Europe’s top five leagues, as data taken from Opta Franz confirms.

Following their 2-1 victory over bitter rivals Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker on Matchday 7 , which saw the Munich outfit become the first ever Bundesliga club to start a season with 12 wins in all competitions, Der Rekordmeister’s 3-0 downing of Gladbach on Saturday took them one further, equalling a record which has stood for over 20 years.

The record in question belonged to Italian giants AC Milan , who began the 1992/93 campaign with 13 wins on the trot – a record which they now share with the Bundesliga league-leaders, thanks to unanswered goals from Joshua Kimmich , Raphaël Guerreiro , and rising starlet Lennart Karl .

One more win for Kompany’s side would mean his Bayern side will have had the outright best start to a season ever across Europe’s top five leagues. The Bavarians are next in action midweek on 29 October, when they travel to Cologne to take on the Billy Goats in a DFB Cup showdown.
