Arsenal have confirmed that goalkeeper Karl Hein has joined Werder Bremen on loan for the 2025/26 season. This will be the 23-year-old's third temporary move away from Emirates Stadium after spells with Real Valladolid and Reading
A club statement , confirming his latest move, read: "Karl Hein has joined Bundesliga side Werder Bremen on a season-long loan." "The 23-year-old goalkeeper joined us from his hometown club, Nomme United, in June 2018 and went on to sign his first professional contract with us the following year. Karl’s first-team debut came in November 2022, when we played Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup third round at Emirates Stadium. "An Estonia international with 39 senior appearances for his country, Karl spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan with La Liga side Real Valladolid, where he made 32 appearances in all competitions. Karl had also previously spent time on loan in the Championship with Reading, where he made five appearances during the 2021/22 season. "Everyone at Arsenal wishes Karl all the best for this season with Werder Bremen. The loan deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes." This is not quite the transfer announcement many Arsenal fans will have been expecting this evening with Eberechi Eze having completed a medical earlier today.
His official arrival is likely to be confirmed over the weekend with any involvement against Leeds United for his Premier League debut as an Arsenal player not happening as the 12pm registration deadline has now passed.
Eze can therefore not feature on Saturday evening and it certainly looks as though three Arsenal players will also be absent due to injury.
"Unfortunately, he [Kai Havertz] picked up an injury and we don't really know yet the extent of it," he said in a press conference . "I think we need a bit more time and some more tests and after that we'll have more clarity about the next steps. I don't know [how bad]. The bad scenario is that he can't play tomorrow.
"Christian [Norgaard] won't be in the squad. With Ben [White], let's see still how he reacts and what we decide. But Christian will be out for another week or so."
Arteta was also unsurprisingly asked about Eze during his press conference with an expectedly coy response following, though there was a subtle hint provided that something is coming soon.
"Nothing to comment," he said on the 27-year-old. "I can never talk about any player that is not part of our group, our club yet, so no comment on that."
