Coote, 43, from Newark, is accused of making one indecent video of a child on January 2 2020.

He will appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday in the first hearing related to the charge.

A category A charge relates to the most severe classification of indecent images or video depicting penetrative sexual activity.

Coote was sacked as a referee after he was seen in leaked footage last November calling Klopp a “German c***” and referring to Liverpool as "s***".

He said: "Aside from having a right pop at me when I was refereeing them against Burnley in lockdown, he accused me of lying and then had a right f***ing pop of me.

"I have no interest in speaking to someone who is f***ing arrogant. So I do my best not to speak to him. James Milner is all right, I get on with him.

"You can see me there with a ‘mask’ on. But, my god, German c***, f*** me."

Coote officiated his first Premier League match in April 2018.

He went on to helm more than 100 top flight fixtures and was an official on the roster at Euro 2024 in Germany.

Following his sacking, he was seen in doorbell footage delivering packages for Evri earlier this summer.
