Elliot Anderson has made himself undroppable for England after another accomplished display vs Latvia

England thrashed Latvia 5-0 on Tuesday evening to book their place in next year’s World Cup .

Nottingham midfielder Elliot Anderson was one of England’s standout performers, continuing his brilliant form for the Three Lions .

After helping England win the U21 European Championship in the summer, Anderson was handed his senior debut in the World Cup qualifying victory over Andorra last month.

He has quickly impressed manager Thomas Tuchel, drawing the praise of the German tactician, who described him as a ‘very, very good football player’.

The 22-year-old marshalled England’s midfield yet again in the victory over Latvia , allowing them to dominate possession throughout the fixture.

According to OptaJoe , the former Newcastle United man completed 121 passes – the most of any England player since August 2008.

Anderson was also instrumental in allowing England record 24 high turnovers , which is the most they have had in any game across all competitions since the 2014 World Cup .

He won seven of the 10 ground duels he contested – more than any of his team-mate and also came out top for most tackles and interceptions.

His presence has given more freedom to Declan Rice, who used to play as the deepest-lying midfielder, to play further up the pitch.

The Arsenal star revealed after captaining England to a 3-0 over Wales that he has become ‘ more of a box-to-box number eight ‘, which has been made possible by Anderson.

Tuchel has been urged to call up Adam Wharton, widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League but Anderson’s consistency could continue to keep Crystal Palace star out of the Three Lions squad.

The Newcastle graduate has made himself undroppable and will surely be one of the names on Tuchel’s list for next year’s finals except for a dip in form or long-term injury.
