Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca commented on the 'consequences' of being a Premier League manager during a blunt reaction to Ange Postecoglou's Nottingham Forest sacking. The Australian coach was shown the door just minutes after a one-sided defeat against Chelsea .

The Blues came out as 3-0 winners over Forest at the City Ground in Saturday's early kick-off, owing to goals from Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto and Reece James . It left Forest winless in the eight games Postecoglou took charge of in all competitions.

In a club statement, published shortly after full-time, the club said: " Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.

"The club will make no further comment at this time."

Following just 39 days in charge at the City Ground, it marks the shortest reign of any Premier League manager. Following the game, Maresca was asked about the decision with the Chelsea boss outlining the brutal reality of Premier League management.

"Yeah, they just said to me. Unfortunately, it's our job," he said post-match. "It's a business where you need to win games. If you don't win games, the consequences are exactly the same."

Three defeats in four games earlier in the season saw pressure begin to mount on Maresca with Chelsea. The Blues have now bounced back with three wins in a row, including a dramatic 2-1 victory over champions Liverpool before October's international break.

For both Chelsea and Forest, midweek sees a return to European action. Maresca's side host Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday night (8pm).

Forest, meanwhile, take on FC Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night (8pm). If a new manager is in place by time that game comes around is still to be seen, though, with Sean Dyche and Roberto Mancini among the current favourites to take on the role.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
