Ethan Ennis close to Fleetwood Town loan switch, with Plymouth set to miss out

Manchester United are busy arranging last-minute loans for academy graduates.

Ethan Williams joined Falkirk on a season-long loan, and now as per The BBC , Ethan Ennis is closing in on a move to League Two side Fleetwood Town.

He was not named in the U21 squad that faced Manchester City reserves on Sunday. It did not matter in the end as Chido Obi and Amir Ibragimov scored to hand Travis Binnion’s side the victory .

“Manchester United youngster Ethan Ennis is edging towards a loan deal with League Two Fleetwood Town.

“Ennis was among the players to be left out of United’s 2-1 Premier League 2 victory over Manchester City at Leigh as he secures a move away from Old Trafford.”

The 20-year-old has been in red-hot form so far this season, initially impressing in pre-season for the academy before scoring twice in as many U21 games.

The ex-Liverpool academy starlet had spent the last six months of last season out on loan at Doncaster and helped them reach League One.

Fleetwood had been competing with former United midfielder Tom Cleverley’s Plymouth Argyle for the attacker’s signature, and they are currently in the lead.

He had signed a new contract at Old Trafford last summer with his previous deal due to expire this summer.

Ethan Ennis had become the first player to move from Liverpool to United in 57 years back in 2021 as the then-16-year-old rejected the Merseyside team’s offer of a new youth contract.

An ACL injury in his knee back in 2022 had stunted his development but since his return, he has been on fire with Ennis building up quite the reputation of being a goalscoring winger.

He even impressed for the first team in pre-season under Erik ten Hag but is yet to catch Ruben Amorim’s eye. Hopefully, this loan spell might change that for him.
