Five random transfers you might have missed in the summer window

This year’s summer window was so hectic and busy that there are any number of transfers you might have missed.

With so many big money, blockbuster deals happening over the past few months, we’ve picked out a few notably surprising deals that may have gone under your radar.

To be fair, you probably have seen that Jamie Vardy joined Cremonese on Deadline Day, but there was so much going on on Monday that it might well have passed you by entirely.

So much was going on with Liverpool over the summer that it would have been extremely easy to miss Tyler Morton’s departure.

The midfielder ended his 15-year association with the Reds having joined the club as a seven-year-old, but never managed to secure a place in the first team, making just 14 senior appearances over the past two seasons.

It was inevitable that Morton would leave, particularly after he said during pre-season he needed more gametime, with Premier League and Championship clubs interested in signing him.

It came as a big surprise, then, that he moved to France instead, joining Lyon in a deal worth up to £13m including add-ons. Liverpool inserted a 20 per cent sell-on clause in the transfer.

Only one year after making a sentimental return to Udinese, the club where he made his name in 2011, Alexis Sanchez has made the move to Sevilla.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United forward signed a two-year deal with the Italian outfit last summer, but he fell out of favour and has returned to Spain on a free transfer.

Another Manchester United flop from the past, Sofyan Amrabat followed Jose Mourinho out the door at Fenerbahce just days after the manager was sacked for failing to qualify for the Champions League league phase.

The midfielder has been loaned out to Real Betis, where he will link up with former Red Devils teammate Antony after the winger in a deal worth up to a potential £21.6m.

There was very little attention paid to Tariq Lamptey’s Deadline Day move to Fiorentina, which sadly reflects how little we have seen of him in recent years.

The full-back looked like a really exciting prospect following his £3m move from Chelsea to Brighton in January 2020. But his spell on the south coast was plagued by injuries, limiting him to just 57 starts over the past five and a half years.
