Forget Yamal, Pedri because 27-year-old star is now Barcelona’s new assist king

Barcelona may have suffered defeat in Sunday’s El Clasico , but amid the disappointment lies a major silver lining – the continued brilliance of Marcus Rashford .

The forward was once again among the most decisive players on the pitch, providing yet another assist – his sixth of the season – which takes his overall tally to 11 goal contributions across all competitions, consisting of five goals and six assists.

Some even argue that Rashford’s involvement should be credited with a seventh assist, as it was his run that led to the penalty converted by Lamine Yamal in Barcelona’s rout of Olympiacos.

While not officially recognised as an assist, the play underlines Rashford’s growing influence in decisive moments.

The 27-year-old has found his rhythm under Hansi Flick, and his numbers highlight just how valuable he has become to the Blaugrana attack.

Rashford’s ability to create chances for different teammates is particularly noteworthy as his six assists have been shared among five different players, with only Ferran Torres benefiting twice.

His list of assists includes Raphinha (vs Valencia), Ferran Torres (vs Getafe and PSG), Ronald Araujo (vs Oviedo), Jules Kounde (vs Real Sociedad), and Fermín Lopez (vs Real Madrid).

As for goals, Rashford’s finishing touch has been equally impressive. The Englishman has scored five times this season – two against Newcastle, two more in the win over Olympiacos, and one in La Liga during the 4-1 triumph over Sevilla.

Flick has emerged as one of Rashford’s strongest advocates. The manager has repeatedly praised the forward’s work ethic and adaptability, emphasising his importance in Barcelona’s attacking structure.

Rashford, in turn, views his time here as a chance to prove himself once again after a difficult spell in England and wants to stay beyond his loan tenure .

Although Barcelona’s option to buy him permanently – valued between €30 and €35 million – could be financially challenging given the club’s current situation, Rashford’s desire to stay is complete.

He has settled well within the dressing room, enjoys the confidence of the coaching staff, and has quickly won over the fans with his performances.
