Casemiro put in a solid shift, but Fernandes lacks the physical presence for a deeper role, and Manuel Ugarte has yet to justify his £60m price tag. With Kobbie Mainoo seemingly out of favour, new midfield signings are essential if United are to progress.

Despite the opening defeat, United delivered a strong performance and will head into this fixture with confidence. Fans can expect a determined display as they look to get their season up and running.
