Gianluigi Donnarumma: Man City agree deal to sign Man United target

Manchester United’s search for a new goalkeeper has become more difficult ahead of Monday’s deadline.

United are trying to shake up their goalkeeping department in the final hours of the transfer window, as Ruben Amorim has underlined he no longer trusts Andre Onana as his number one.

The Cameroon international returned to the starting lineup against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup. However, he delivered a frustrating performance, gifting the League 2 side a 2-0 lead with his shambolic goalkeeping.

Amorim has used Onana’s understudy, Altay Bayındır, in the Premier League. The Turkish international has impressed with his distribution, but he has looked shaky claiming crosses. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Galatasaray are interested in the United duo.

Over the summer, United have been strongly linked with Emiliano Martinez, Senne Lammens, and Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, their Premier League rivals have beaten them to the signature of the Italian shot-stopper.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are set to sign Donnarumma, having reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain over a transfer fee.

The Italy international attracted United’s interest early in the summer after Luis Enrique decided to push him out of his first-team plans in the French capital.

However, City showed a greater desire to get the deal over the line, as they struck an agreement over personal terms “weeks ago”.

Donnarumma will undergo medical tests this afternoon before formally moving to the blue side of Manchester.

In recent hours, United have stepped up their efforts to sign Martinez from Aston Villa.

As per Romano , the Red Devils are in talks with Villa for the World Cup-winning goalkeeper, who was dropped from Unai Emery’s matchday squad to face Crystal Palace on Sunday due to uncertainty over his future. He is keen on moving to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, United’s late push for Martinez has led to Villa making a formal approach for Lammens, who is viewed as Martinez’s possible replacement at Villa Park.
