Gravenberch Misses Community Shield After Becoming Dad
Arne Slot has revealed that Ryan Gravenberch was omitted from the Liverpool squad for the Community Shield after becoming a father on Saturday.
The Dutch international was a notable omission from the squad to face Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium. Liverpool take on Crystal Palace in the season’s traditional curtain-raiser on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm BST.
Slot has eased concerns that Gravenberch was injured and announced the news of the 23-year-old’s newborn child.
Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai start in central midfield alongside record recruit Florian Wirtz. There are also debuts for Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike in the Liverpool side.
Liverpool XI: Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Jones, Wirtz; Salah, Gakpo, Ekitike.
