How Alexander Isak fared in first Sweden appearance since £125m Liverpool transfer

Alexander Isak made his first appearance for Sweden since sealing a £125 million move to Liverpool from Newcastle United on deadline day.

The 25-year-old failed to get on the scoresheet as the Blue and Yellow lost 2-0 to Kosovo in the World Cup qualifier.

Isak was an unused substitute in Friday’s 2-2 draw with Slovenia, but manager Jon Dahl Tomasson featured him off the bench for the final 18 minutes against Kosovo.

Sweden were trailing 2-0 at the time of his introduction following first half goals from Elvis Rexhbecaj and Vedat Muriqi.

The British record signing made a lively start as he was responsible for two of his team’s four shots on target.

But he was booked shortly after his introduction and squandered two big chances.

Isak recorded 17 touches in the game and completed 80 per cent of his passes, although he lost possession of the ball on three occasions.

The Liverpool star did not produce a top display in Pristina, but given he is coming off the back of a difficult summer, his performance was satisfactory.

The highly-rated striker missed out on Newcastle’s pre-season schedule after choosing not to travel with the team.

He actively sought a move to Liverpool and finally got his desired transfer on deadline day.

But in the process, he angered Newcastle supporters with his behaviour, and it is unlikely their relationship will ever mend.

Liverpool are set to return to Premier League action this weekend when they face Burnley in an away clash.

However, Isak’s involvement is unlikely as he has not played a club match since May.
