“I can’t bank on three years at Manchester United” says Ruben Amorim

Manchester United head coach Rúben Amorim has welcomed Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s public backing but insists there are no guarantees of time in football, not even from the club’s new ownership.

Ratcliffe, who last week told The Times that Amorim could need three years to make a lasting impact at Old Trafford, offered rare public support for the Portuguese coach amid growing scrutiny over United’s poor form.

However, Amorim struck a pragmatic tone ahead of United’s 100th meeting with Liverpool at Anfield, reminding reporters that football’s realities are often unforgiving. “ It’s really good to hear it ,” he said, speaking to BBC Sport . “ But Jim knows, I know, football isn’t like that. The most important thing is the next game. You can’t control tomorrow .”

United have won just 10 of their 34 Premier League matches since Amorim’s appointment last November and have yet to secure back-to-back league victories this season. Chief executive Omar Berrada has since admitted the manager’s adaptation to English football has been slower than expected.

Still, Amorim rejected any sense of comfort. “ I don’t like the idea we have time ,” he said. “ The pressure I put on myself and the team is far greater. At a club like this, you must prove yourself every weekend .”
