'I signed for Everton but was humbled in two weeks by one question from my team-mate'

Joleon Lescott couldn't believe his ears when Joseph Yobo admitted to not knowing his position two weeks after he'd arrived at Everton . The centre-back made the move to Goodison Park in 2006 after a successful six-year stint with Wolves .
And while Lescott was able to quickly gel and build chemistry with many of his team-mates, he has now explained that Yobo was a bit tricky to get to grips with. Speaking with Adebayo Akinfenwa on his Beast Mode On podcast , the 43-year-old said: "Joseph Yobo, he's funny mate.
"I'd been there for two weeks, yeah, [and] he asked me where I played. That was humbling. That was the first time I'd been humbled. I was like, 'Oh, I've got to prove myself again.' Do you know what I mean?
"He was so calm. I was like, 'Yo, you really don't know.' And I'm thinking, 'If he's in my team and don't know, no one's going to know.'"
A flabbergasted Akinfenwa replied: "You know, these are like the little things which... like, if I went into a club and they said, 'Hey, bruv, where do you play?'" Before Lescott added: "Nah bruv, I'm not talking day one. I've been there.
"I've been training, but he didn't know where I played bruv, after a week, 10 days. I was like 'Oh.' [I was] allegedly coming to play alongside him."
Way before the prime of his career, Lescott had yet to make a Premier League appearance when he made his move to Everton in a deal worth £5million. However, he left the club three years later as a fully-established top-flight defender, having scored 17 goals and provided seven assists in 143 outings for the Toffees.

A five-year stint with Manchester City followed, with Lescott snagging two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup with the Cityzens before moving on to West Bromwich Albion in 2014. He then represented Aston Villa , AEK Athens and Sunderland before calling time on his career in 2017 with 26 caps to his name for England .
Defender Yobo had a slightly less impressive club career, breaking through at Standard Liege and moving on to Marseille before arriving at Everton in 2002, initially on a loan move which was made permanent the following year. He spent nine years with the Toffees before moving on to Fenerbahce in 2012.
He also spent a brief spell at Norwich in 2014, before hanging up his boots for good. However, Yobo excelled with his native Nigeria when compared to the resume Lescott racked up for the Three Lions, making 101 appearances and scoring seven goals between 2001 and 2014.

Their former club Everton will play Premier League football at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time on Sunday when they face Brighton and Hove Albion . Last season was the Toffees' final dance at Goodison Park, and this weekend's clash will mark the start of a new era for the blue half of Merseyside at their brand-new 52,769-capacity home.
Everton got off to a false start in their Premier League opener with newly-promoted Leeds United at Elland Road on Monday evening, suffering a 1-0 defeat in Yorkshire as a result of a controversially awarded penalty converted by Lukas Nmecha. They will hope to add their first points of the campaign on the board on home soil when they host Brighton .
