Recent Manchester United transfer target Denzel Dumfries has admitted he is open to a Premier League move. Dumfries has been a key player for Inter Milan since joining from PSV Eindhoven for £12.3million in August 2021.

The Netherlands international quickly became one of the world ’s most highly rated wing-backs under former Inter boss Simone Inzaghi, making a huge contribution last season in the form of 11 goals as the Italian giants reached the Champions League final.

However, Inzaghi’s departure in the summer resulted in growing speculation over the 29-year-old’s potential exit, with reports claiming that he had a £21.6m release clause in his contract until mid-July.

The Red Devils had been linked with a move for the Dutchman since 2024 , with Dumfries being a perfect fit for Ruben Amorim’s favoured 3-4-2-1 formation, given his physical prowess on the right-flank and talent when attacking and defending.

Those links re-emerged this summer, as Dumfries would have been a major upgrade on Amorim’s existing right wing-back options Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui. But United ultimately didn't end up submitting a bid for Dumfries and the defender has since played the full 90 minutes of Inter’s two Serie A fixtures, scoring one goal already.

However, Dumfries has now made it known to potential suitors that he is open to a move to the Premier League in the future, should the opportunity present itself. Dumfries said after his goal in the Netherlands’ 1-1 draw with Poland last week: “The Premier League is a fantastic competition.

“I’m happy at Inter, but I think I could also do very well in England. If there were a professional opportunity, I would certainly be interested.

“The Premier League is known for its intensity, while Serie A is known for its tactical ability. These are two different approaches to football. The Champions League, however, always offers exciting clashes.”

A move to the English top flight would see Dumfries come face-to-face with a number of his international team-mates, with 14 of the latest Dutch squad’s stars currently playing their football in England.

One Dutch player not involved in the recent World Cup qualifiers was Jeremie Frimpong of Liverpool . Frimpong, also a highly-rated wing-back, was another target of United’s but joined the Reds of Merseyside for £29.5m this summer , dealing another blow to Amorim.

Dumfries, meanwhile, has already been given a stamp of approval by none other than Gary Neville , the greatest right-back in United’s history.

“With the way Man United are playing with a back-five and wing-backs under Ruben Amorim, I was thinking about that right wing-back,” the pundit said of Dumfries after Inter’s thrilling Champions League win over Barcelona last season.

“I was thinking about Dumfries for United. I would like to see him in the Premier League, wouldn’t you? How good was he? He was unbelievable. He’s so good, so good.”
