Injured Arsenal star out of Champions League squad with Max Dowman, 15, included

Gabriel Jesus has been left out of Arsenal’s Champions League squad for the coming European campaign.

The Brazil international has not played for the Gunners since January with a cruciate ligament tear ending his 2024-25 campaign.

The former Manchester City star has resumed light training but there is no timeline for his return to action.

After reaching the semi-finals of the competition last season , Arsenal have strengthened the squad significantly this summer with eight signings, including Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze in attack.

It means there is no room for Jesus in the squad for the initial league phase of the competition, beginning away to Athletic Club on 16 September and home to Kairat Almaty on 28 January.

Jesus arrived at the Emirates in a £45million deal in 2022 but injuries have been a constant issue during his time in north London.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a return to Brazil with Flamengo sounding out a possible move in the summer.

Once fit again, Jesus will be targeting a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad at next summer’s World Cup.

Jesus has made 96 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions since his arrival from City.

Elsewhere, 15-year-old sensation Max Dowman has also been named in the Champions League squad.

If he plays any role in the competition in the coming months, he will become the youngest player in history to appear in the Champions League.

In doing so, he would beat the record previously held by Youssoufa Moukoko, who was 16 years and 18 days when he played for Borussia Dortmund.
