Italy XI vs Israel – Predicted lineup and team news
Italy continue their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign when they face Israel at Nagyerdei Stadion in Debrecen on Monday, September 8th, 2025.
The match, relocated from Israel for security reasons, provides a key opportunity for Ran Ben Shimon’s side to consolidate second place in Group I, currently on nine points after a 4-0 win over Moldova.
Italy, under new coach Gennaro Gattuso, arrive buoyed by a 5-0 triumph against Estonia in their opening fixture. A win will take the Azzurri above Israel on goal difference.
Italy will be without Gianluca Scamacca, who withdrew from the squad due to a knee inflammation confirmed by the Italian FA. Inter Milan striker Francesco Pio Esposito was handed his senior debut as a substitute against Estonia.
Giacomo Raspadori also played a part in the match as a substitute and scored a goal and provided a couple of assists, stating his case for inclusion in the starting XI.
Gattuso is likely to retain the back four that secured a clean sheet against Estonia, with Alessandro Bastoni and Riccardo Calafiori anchoring the centre. In midfield, Nicolo Barella should partner Sandro Tonali, while Mattia Zaccagni and Matteo Politano provide width. Leading the line, Mateo Retegui will look to build on his two-goal performance last time out.
Italy predicted XI: Gianluigi Donnarumma; Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Alessandro Bastoni, Riccardo Calafiori, Federico Dimarco; Nicolo Barella, Sandro Tonali, Matteo Politano, Mateo Retegui,, Moise Kean, Mattia Zaccagni.
Monday at 7:45pm BST.
