Keane , 54, was appearing on the Stick to Football , brought to you by Sky Bet , when he made the dig.

The Manchester United legend claimed Shearer had a knack for being "nasty" on the pitch.

He said: "Shearer was sneaky, sneaky elbows.

"I didn’t admire people who were nasty, I don’t like nasty people."

The comments were shared with Shearer by Ian Wright and Micah Richards .

And Lineker took exception to the dig as he responded to Keane on his The Rest Is Football Podcast.

He said: "It's amazing what rival pods will do to try and get a bit of PR."

Despite the dig, Shearer did not seem to be bothered by Keane's opinion of him.

He added: "Someone sent me that the other day, and then Micah [Richards] sent me it and Wrighty [Ian Wright] and we had a laugh.

"I mean, really, come on."

Lineker then joked that Shearer is "living in his head" before the Premier League record scorer said: "Sneaky and nasty... I mean, some of the tackles, come on."

Lineker ended the segment with a dig of his own back at Keane.

He said: "Pot, kettle, black, and that kind of stuff."
