Liverpool are keen to hand Arne Slot a new contract - and his agent is said to already be working on the deal. Slot, 47, enjoyed a remarkable first season on Merseyside, guiding Liverpool to only their second English title in 35 years and reached the final of the Carabao Cup .

Few anticipated such a smooth transition following Jurgen Klopp's departure but the Dutchman immediately filled the void left by the Reds' legendary manager. Slot signed a three-year contract upon his appointment in May 2024 and less than halfway through the length of that deal, Liverpool want to extend it.

The Mail report that Anfield chiefs want to act quickly, as they face starting next season with the ex-Feyenoord boss in the final year of his contract. That could present a risk for Fenway Sports Group and echo the sagas involving Mo Salah , Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold last season.

FSG, it should be noted, gave Klopp a new six-year contract just nine months into his tenure. The report adds that Slot's agent, Rafaela Pimenta, is already working on a fresh set of terms.

In May, the 47-year-old was asked about the prospect of signing a new deal, having wrapped up the Premier League title in near-record time. His answer, by his own admission, didn't surprise anyone, as he's been keen not to get involved in speculation over contracts and transfers since his arrival.

"I think you are not going to be surprised about my answer," Slot admitted. "I always try to stay away from that (speculation), I would say completely but as much as I can. So off the record is the same as on the record.

"I don't talk about contracts in public and I like that so much because if you start to talk so much off the record, your life is going to be much harder. I will always say on and off the record the same. So I say nothing or what I think I should say."

Slot did, however, entertain the idea of building a dynasty at Liverpool and potentially surpassing Klopp's nine-year stay. "That's hard to say [but] I could see it, yes," he added.

"But I think in general the football world has changed. There are not many managers that stay at a club for nine years because nine out of 10 times the board or someone at the club isn't happy at a certain moment anymore.

"That has changed a lot over the course of the last few years, in England especially. This club has a history of having managers for a long time and we also saw that with Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United .

"But I think in general, in football and in life, there is not so much patience. Maybe England is an exception. So I could see myself working here for a long time because it's a great club to work for and I'm really happy over here."
