A bus driver claims he was sacked for wearing a Liverpool shirt behind the wheel after he was mobbed by Chelsea fans.

Isaac, who did not provide his full name, was driving a rail replacement bus in the west London area on Saturday night, wearing a white and green Liverpool away shirt.

Chelsea and Liverpool were in action in the evening’s late kick-off at Stamford Bridge with the Blues sealing a dramatic last-minute victory over the Premier League champions , who were condemned to their third straight defeat.

Footage on social media shows Isaac’s bus surrounded by jubilant Chelsea supporters after the 2-1 victory, chanting and banging on the windows as they spot his Liverpool shirt.

The chaotic scenes sparked what his employers described as ‘significant disruption and delays’, leading to his dismissal.

The life-long Liverpool supporter appeared on Talk TV to discuss the incident, wearing the same Liverpool jersey he claimed ‘was the first clean T-shirt’ he had before setting off to work that day.

‘I didn’t know what route it was,’ Isaac said. ‘The first clean T-shirt I had was a Liverpool one. ‘I [later] realised I was going to go past Chelsea and then I saw the Chelsea fans outside the stadium.

‘I saw the funny side to it when I was watching the videos but when I was sat in that cabin at that time it wasn’t so funny.

‘I was holding the window shut. The window on the driver’s side is supposed to lock from the inside but it didn’t so I was holding it shut.’

He added: ‘They literally surrounded me in the bus. Eventually, the police got them away from the bus and I got back to the depot.’

Isaac claimed he received an email from his agency on Monday morning confirming he had been fired.

‘My agency sent over an email saying, “regarding the events of Saturday 4 October we will be dismissing due to a uniform policy”.

‘The video had circulated all over social media, it went on all the platforms, and they told be the bus company had seen it as well.’

The agency declined to provide further details on the incident, saying only in a statement: “’Due to GDPR, we are unable to comment on this matter. This is being dealt with through internal processes.’

Isaac insisted his employer had ‘no problem’ with him wearing his Liverpool shirt, also taking a swipe at London mayor Sadiq Khan.

‘I don’t see any care in TfL anymore. I don’t think it’s being operated correctly,’ he said.
