Man Utd on brink of agreeing £16m transfer but Ruben Amorim faces last-minute issue

Manchester United are set to win the race for young Belgian keeper Senne Lammens. United have been monitoring the 22-year-old Royal Antwerp stopper for the past year, and have lined up a deal that will see them pay £16million plus a package of add-ons.

It is understood that Lammens wants to move to Old Trafford, despite big interest in him from Galatasaray, Inter Milan and Lille.

United will now look to seal an agreement with the player, although Turkish giants Galatasaray put in an 11th-hour bid on Saturday night to try and steal the 6ft 3in keeper. Lammens’ arrival will raise more doubts over the long-term future of Andre Onana.

The Cameroon international was left out of Ruben Amorim’s squad for last week’s defeat by Arsenal . He is waiting to see if he wins a recall for the trip to Fulham after back-up Altay Bayindir gifted the Gunners their winning goal.

Onana, a £47million signing from Inter Milan two years ago, has been inconsistent during his time at Old Trafford. He will be heading for the African Cup of Nations in December and Amorim made it clear he needed a new keeper.

Lammens is expected to sign a five-year deal. He views a move to the Premier League as a platform to challenge Real Madrid veteran Thibaut Courtois for the No 1 spot with Belgium.

Meanwhile, Amorim admitted on Friday that it is not a good situation to still have four wantaway players at Manchester United but says “anything can happen” if they do not find a suitable solution.

The Red Devils have until September 1 to complete their summer rebuild, with speculation over potential additions outweighed by talk of prospective exits.

Marcus Rashford is the only member of the so-called ‘bomb squad’ to have left, with Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia still working away from United’s first-team squad.

The quartet are attracting interest but no resolution appears imminent, with clubs seemingly testing the Red Devils’ resolve on valuations as the deadline edges closer.

“I know that it’s not a good thing to have players in this situation, but it’s clear they want to play in a different club,” Amorim said. “That is clear.

“So, we try to arrange everything for both parts to be happy, so I have to try to imagine, to have the training with the guys that I think are going to be the future.

“Then the other guys are training and preparing for the next chapter. When the window is closed, it’s a different history. When the window is closed, we have to receive the players and then a new life. Anything can happen.”
