Manchester United Were Showing Interest In This Crystal Palace Star: Should Amorim Go Back For Him In January?
In a recent report , journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Manchester United were showing interest in Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton . It is believed that the Red Devils were keeping a keen eye on the English midfielder along with Tottenham Hotspur , Real Madrid and Chelsea last month.
Wharton enjoyed a good run of form at the South London club in the previous campaign after he produced a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The English talent was involved in 27 matches for the Eagles last season, securing a couple of assists in the process on all fronts.
The 21-year-old anchored the midfield well as he made 34 tackles, 11 blocks, 20 interceptions and 27 clearances in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing possession from inside his half after completing 79% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via fbref.com ).
Wharton is under contract at Selhurst Park until the summer of 2029. Thus, it won’t be easy for Man United to snap him up on the cheap if they decide to move in for him this January.

Wharton loves a tackle and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a tidy passer of the ball as well. Wharton can even create the odd chance for his teammates in the final third.
The English talent is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so. He is quite familiar with the Premier League and has what it takes to make an immediate impact at Man United .
Wharton would add more bite and steel to Ruben Amorim’s midfield department. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting place at the Mancunian club.
At 21, the future looks quite promising for Wharton as long as he continues to improve with each season. Plus, he would help Man United compete across all competitions. Thus, it makes sense for the Red Devils to go back for him when the transfer window reopens this January.
