Max Allegri on Milan v Como in Perth: “If we stay to play in Italy, even better”
Massimiliano Allegri weighed in on the controversy surrounding the proposed Serie A match between Milan and Como , which is currently slated to be played in Perth, Australia. Speaking at a press conference, the Milan coach stressed the need for a swift, definitive decision while making his preference clear: playing the game within Italian borders.
His comments come as La Liga recently reversed a similar decision to hold a match abroad, and with UEFA reportedly pushing for the Italian league to follow suit. Allegri’s priority remains securing a positive outcome regardless of the venue, but he emphasized the logistical and traditional advantage of keeping the game local.
He said, relayed by Tuttomercatoweb:
“I can say one thing but it counts relatively little, the important thing is that a decision is made as soon as possible.” “If we stay to play in Italy, so much the better. If we have to go to Perth, we will go to Perth.” “The important thing will be to take the 3 points.”
In addition to the issue of the location, Allegri looked ahead to the team’s upcoming fixtures, highlighting the challenge of their next opponent and the importance of maintaining momentum.
“More than pressure, it will be a complicated match. Pisa , with the exception of Bologna, has always played fighting matches, creating and scoring goals. If we don’t face them in the right way, they can create great difficulties for us. Furthermore, we must break a taboo, we lost with the first newly promoted team, now we are trying to do a little better. The 3 points are very important for us to continue the good results the team has achieved up to this moment.”
Allegri’s message is a blend of pragmatism and patriotic preference, urging the league to resolve the international fixture debate quickly so the club can focus on the demanding race for points.
Milan are currently at the top of the table and find themselves in a race for the Scudetto.
