Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has doubled down on his claim that Arsenal are favourites to win the Premier League as he claimed it is 'easier' for the Gunners. In each of the last three seasons, the North London club have finished runners-up to the eventual champions.
Arsenal failed to capitalise on a below-par season from Manchester City and end their stranglehold at the summit of English football, as Liverpool romped to the title in Arne Slot's first season. Despite going into the season as reigning champions, Salah has conceded that the Reds are actually not favourites to defend their crown.
The admission comes after a summer of change at Anfield with a host of high-profile exits, including Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
But Liverpool have been busy in the window, breaking their own transfer record to win the race to sign highly-rated Germany international Florian Wirtz.
Meanwhile, they have been locked in a bitter transfer saga over a potential deal to sign Alexander Isak, who wants to leave Newcastle United, in a move that would make him a British record signing.
"That team, I have said it a few times, today and also at the PFA Awards, I said they are the favourites because they have a team that has played [together] for five, six years," said the Egyptian. "So, they understand each other’s game.
"And, they also have a manager with the team for five, six years. When the team’s stuck together for that long, they know each other’s game, so it becomes easier for them.
"But other teams like us and [Manchester] City, changing a lot of players, which is sometimes tricky.
"But again, teams with Pep Guardiola, they are always the favourites. But of course, my opinion is this year Arsenal are number one."
Anfield plays host to an early-season six-pointer in the title race with Liverpool and Arsenal both hoping to maintain their 100 percent record.
Slot's side have made a patchy start to the season, despite winning their opening two matches, as they surrendered a two-goal lead in their encounters against Bournemouth and Newcastle.
Arsenal could capitalise on their defensive frailties and utilise their expertise from set-pieces, continuing their purple patch from dead ball situations during their emphatic 5-0 win over Leeds United last weekend.
