Morgan Rogers has explained why Unai Emery is the 'perfect' manager for him at this stage in his career. The Aston Villa midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal during the summer window, but he ended up staying at Villa Park.

Emery has repaid Rogers for his loyalty, starting him in each of the first three matches of the new Premier League season . The 23-year-old featured on the left-wing in a goalless draw with Newcastle United and in a 1-0 defeat to Brentford.

With Boubacar Kamara and Amadou Onana out against Crystal Palace, John McGinn dropped back, and Rogers was given the licence to roam as a number 10 . Despite his best efforts, the Eagles stormed past Emery's side.

Aston Villa are yet to win a game this term, but Rogers has maintained that his boss is 'perfect' for him at this stage in his career. Speaking on talkSPORT - as quoted by BirminghamLive - the England international was asked what Emery's support means to him.

"It means everything," said Rogers, who was called up to the latest Three Lions squad by Thomas Tuchel. "As a player, when you feel wanted, loved, and you feel like they want you to be there, and to want you to be a key member of the squad, it means everything to you as a player.

"As a player, it's alright having outside noise and fans liking you. That's one thing, but to have the manager, who picks the team, to back you - that means everything.

"He just allows me to play football and express myself. He knows that I won't always get it right or get it perfect, but he just trusts me to a point where he knows I will give it my all.

"If it doesn't work, then it's okay, we'll try again and go to the next game. Having that manager is perfect and just what I needed at this time of my career."

Rogers has also recently named Jude Bellingham as somebody who he looks up to. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, as quoted by The Times & Star , the Villa playmaker said: "I don't think he intimidates us.

"I think it's just that will to win, his heart, what it means to him, the player he is and the person he is. I think he just wants to win and do well all the time. And, when that doesn't happen, maybe his frustrations will show a bit more than others."

Rogers went on: "I don't think there's anything wrong with that, as long as he's doing it in the right way, which he always does from where I am. He just wants to win. He's got that determination, that fight and that hunger to win and do well and succeed.

"I don't think it's necessarily a problem or an issue. He is a leader and is an example for us. That's exactly what you need. I know he's younger, but the experience that he's got - with the things that he's won and games he's played in - I think that experience is vital and key.

"I think it's a positive and a really good thing that he's got that eagerness and that want to win. I think it can drag you all along, if maybe something's not going right, and it can pull you together."
