Newcastle United vs Liverpool preview, team news and predicted lineup

Newcastle and Liverpool are set to face off in a high-profile Premier League clash that promises plenty of intrigue. Both sides will be eager to make a statement in this rematch of last season’s Carabao Cup final, where the Magpies stunned Liverpool to secure their first domestic trophy in 70 years.
Much of the spotlight this time falls on Alexander Isak , who scored the decisive goal at Wembley and has become the central figure in the build-up due to recent transfer developments. Newcastle recently rejected a £110 million bid from Liverpool for their star striker, who has since accused the club of breaking a promise as he pushes for a move to the Premier League champions.
The ongoing transfer saga has escalated, with Newcastle issuing a firm response to Isak’s claims. As a result, the Swedish international’s future is set to dominate discussions before, during, and after this eagerly awaited fixture, which rounds off the Premier League weekend.
Isak will not be involved against the club he’s eager to join. The Swedish striker has been frozen out by the Magpies and is currently training alone. Although Eddie Howe is open to reintegrating him into the squad, that won’t happen on Monday night.
In a boost for the hosts, Joe Willock has made a quicker-than-expected recovery and is now fully fit. Jacob Ramsey is set to make his Newcastle debut after joining from Aston Villa following the goalless draw at Villa Park, but he may have to settle for a spot on the bench as Howe is likely to opt for a more physical midfield.
Liverpool, meanwhile, will be without summer signing Jeremie Frimpong due to a hamstring injury. The defender was forced off during the opening day win over Bournemouth and will remain sidelined until after next month’s international break. Conor Bradley has returned to fitness and is available as an option at right-back, alongside Joe Gomez and Wataru Endo.
The visitors also have Ryan Gravenberch back in contention following suspension and the birth of his child. The Dutch midfielder is likely to return to the starting lineup alongside Alexis Mac Allister, which could see either Dominik Szoboszlai or Florian Wirtz drop to the bench.
Newcastle: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Livramento; Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Barnes, Gordon, Elanga
Liverpool: Alisson; Endo, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo, Ekitike
