Next Rangers boss odds as Russell Martin clings on despite first league win

RUSSELL MARTIN is still clinging onto his Rangers job despite winning his first league game at the weekend.

So much so, bookmakers talkSPORT BET have loaded up a next manager market at Ibrox with the pressure firmly on.

Andrew Cavenagh jetted in last week as showdown talks looked set to take place, with Gers winless in five Premiership games at that stage before losing their opening Europa League tie.

But as it stands The 49ers, CEO Patrick Stewart and director of football Kevin Thelwell have all backed Martin to stay in the role.

That despite calls from fan groups to axe him after their humiliating 9-1 aggregate defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off, with fan protests at almost every game that has followed, including before the win over Hibs in the Premier Sports Cup.

The three points in West Lothian saw the Light Blues climb out the relegation play off spot and up to eighth, now seven points behind Celtic and nine behind leaders Hearts.

With Rangers supporters filling three stands at Livingston on Sunday, the chants of "Martin, get to f***" have never been louder than shortly after Livi equalised with 20 minutes to go.

But what would've surprised him more was shortly after flop Max Aarons notched the winner four minutes into injury time to win the game to spark wild celebrations in the dugout, those same chants followed even louder than before.

It's clear he's lost the overwhelming majority of the Rangers support and it remains to be seen when that will translate into the boardroom.

talkSPORT BET have priced up a next Rangers manager market as a result.

talkSPORT BET odds

Sean Dyche is the early market leader with the bookmaker at 11/4, ahead of Steven Gerrard - who a lot of fans have backed for a return - at 3/1.

Danny Rohl is a 5/1 shot ahead of Jose Mourinho at 6/1, though that looks highly unlikely now given his appointment at Benfica.

Gary O'Neil is also 6/1, have been strongly linked before Martin was given the job.

Barry Ferguson returning after his interim spell at the end of last season is 8/1, which is the same price for Michael Carrick.

Kevin Muscat is 12/1 and Hearts boss Derek McInnes is next at 16s.
