Nicolas Jackson, Fermin and nine Chelsea deadline day transfers to complete after late bombshell

Deadline day is upon us and Chelsea have arrived. Two weeks ago, it promised to be a quiet-ish end to the transfer window for Enzo Maresca, but it has descended into anarchy once more.

Despite having most of the incomings business completed before the start of the Premier League season, Chelsea have ended up scrambling to find answers. They looked geared up to focus on sales on the final fortnight but have instead but forced back into the market.

Alejandro Garnacho has arrived but that hardly makes the headlines of what has actually happened. Xavi Simons flew to London with the intention of joining only to be persuaded by Tottenham.

Fermin Lopez has emerged as a viable alternative but Barcelona want an enormous sum late on. The Spaniard was playing for Hansi Flick on Sunday night, less than 24 hours before the window shuts.

Facundo Buonanotte came from nowhere to be a surprise loan addition. Nicolas Jackson flew to Munich and got sent back hours later after Liam Delap's injury prompted a hasty rethink.

Marc Guiu scored once in three appearances for Sunderland in all competitions but has been recalled. Whether that is to do with future planning with regards to Jackson or not waits to be seen.

Will Chelsea convince him to stay? Could Guiu be loaned out again elsewhere? Will either of them be sold or reintegrated into Maresca's squad? It is hard to call.

Should one or both leave (permanently or not), how do Chelsea go about replacing them? Conrad Harder is another new name linked and Emanuel Emegha already has an agreement to move to London next summer. Might that be brought forward?

The picture will surely become clearer as the day goes on but with 12 hours remaining (at the time of writing) quite literally anything is possible. This is without mentioning those who are still awaiting a resolution to their own long and troubled summer.

Ben Chilwell and Raheem Sterling seem to have run out of time to find a new home so will surely have to rely on another late loan. Axel Disasi is also waiting in the wings for a call to travel to another club.

Chelsea will be keen to get all three off the books but it has been far from easy progress up to now. They have just one international loan slot left to fill, as well.

That was set to be Jackson but his deal to go to Bayern has fallen through. That does open up other options for Chelsea but multiple plates are being spun here.

RC Strasbourg cannot take any more players this window. How do Chelsea navigate this messy path? It will be a chaotic and unpredictable day. It's a Chelsea thing.

Tyrique George had the frustration of being substituted off after being called from the bench against Fulham. He could be heading to Roma on deadline day and might have just had a nightmare final appearance for his boyhood club. That is another one to take into account.

In total, there are nine players who have uncertain futures. Jackson, Guiu, Disasi, Sterling, Chilwell, George, Fermin, Buonanotte, and possibly a striker signing. Will Alexander Isak's finally impending switch to Liverpool have a role here? Could Aston Villa and Morgan Rogers come in and unsettle the nest?

Predict and theorise away. The safest bet is to check back in at 7pm on Monday, September 1. That will only tell part of the story.
