Roberto Mancini has reportedly been contacted by Nottingham Forest as they look for a successor to Ange Postecoglou. Postecoglou was given his marching orders after a mere 39 days at the helm of the Reds. This came on Saturday, in the wake of Forest's 3-0 drubbing by Chelsea on their own turf.

Despite only taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo in September, the board decided to cut ties with him after he failed to secure a single victory in his eight games in charge. This has paved the way for Mancini to potentially step into the fray at the City Ground, with Forest languishing in 18th place in the Premier League table, having chalked up just one win, two draws and five defeats.

According to The Athletic, Forest have been 'in contact' with Mancini about a possible move Trentside. The 60 year old Italian, who has been jobless since leaving his role as the head coach of the Saudi Arabian national team last year, boasts an impressive CV, reports Nottinghamshire Live .

He has been linked with a shock move to Manchester United , with The Sun reporting that he has told his friends that he thinks he could be in with a shout of taking the top job at Old Trafford if Ruben Amorim is sacked by the club.

Such a move is highly unlikely, though, even without taking Mancini's Manchester City past into account.

There might not even be a vacancy at Old Trafford any time soon for the 2012 Premier League winner , with United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe expressing his desire to see Ruben Amorim stay at the club despite a poor year in charge for the Portuguese.

"He has not had the best of seasons," Sir Jim said on The Times' The Business podcast. "Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years.

"That's where I would be. The press, sometimes I don't understand. They want overnight success.

"They think it's a light switch. You know, you flick a switch and it's all going to be roses tomorrow.

"You can't run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week."
