Paul Scholes may not be thrilled about the prospect of Roberto Mancini taking over from Ruben Amorim at Manchester United . That's his recent outburst about the club is anything to go by.

The future of the Portuguese manager at Old Trafford has been shrouded in uncertainty recently, as he's struggled to turn things around since succeeding Erik ten Hag nearly a year ago. Last season, Amorim could only steer United to a disappointing 15th place finish in the Premier League , and this term, the 40-year-old's record has been inconsistent to say the least, with three victories, three defeats and a draw.

Consequently, several names have been tossed into the ring as potential successors to Amorim should he get the sack, including Gareth Southgate , Oliver Glasner and even Zinedine Zidane . Meanwhile, Mancini - who led Manchester City to their maiden Premier League title in 2011/12 - has also been linked with the job.

According to a report from The Sun , the 60-year-old - who has been without a job since leaving the Saudi Arabian national team last year - has told friends that he would be open to making changes at Manchester United if given the opportunity. However, United legend Scholes might not be keen on the idea of another ex-staff member from his club's arch-rivals being associated with his beloved Red Devils, reports the Manchester Evening News .

In conversation with The Times , he shared his concerns about the influx of City executives to join Manchester United. He said: "You've got Jason Wilcox , Omar Berrada, then there's others. I don't think Manchester United should do that.

"City have been good for the past ten years, so we hope they bring a bit of that, but it's not what a Manchester United person would want. It's not what we want and it's probably not what the fans want either.

"You talk about DNA, there's nobody there who knows what a Manchester United person is. Darren Fletcher is the only one who knows anything about what it's like to be a Manchester United player. And look, you don't always have to be the best player, but you just have to have the balls to be able to play for the club, don't you?"

Former team-mate, Nicky Butt echoed his sentiments , adding: "It's unbelievable. Every City staff member goes to Man United now.

" Real Madrid wouldn't do it with Barcelona or vice versa. If you have a DNA that's solid, you should go and handpick the really good coaches - United did that with Kieran McKenna. You see a shining light at Tottenham and bring him in and he teaches you things, but right now there's no one except Darren Fletcher."

Despite a much-needed 2-0 victory over newly-promoted Sunderland AFC ahead of the international break, Amorim is still feeling the heat as his team prepares to face bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield this Sunday. Yet, the gaffer remains confident about his position, insisting that he has the full support of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the United board.

In a pre-match press conference on Friday, Amorim said: "He tells me all the time, sometimes with a message after the games but you know, I know and Jim knows that football is not like that.

"The most important thing is the next game. You cannot control the next day in football so I know that but it is really good to hear that also because of the noise. Omar and Jason tell me that all the time."

He added: "First of all I can feel it, it is not just that thing that people talk [about]. I feel the support every day. Sometimes the pressure I put on myself and the team is often so much bigger than them. I know it is going to take a while but I don't want to think like that, I said that last year.

"It is really good to hear that, I think it helps our fans understand that the leadership knows it will take a while but, at the same moment, I don't like that because it will give a feeling like we have time to work things out so I don't want that feeling here in our club. It is good to feel the support but we need to show people, at a big club, we are ready to win games."
