Pep Guardiola has provided an update on Phil Foden and Rodri ahead of Manchester City's clash against Tottenham Hotspur . The eight-time Premier League champions will host Thomas Frank's side at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they each look to extend their winning starts to the new season .
Last weekend, Man City cruised past Wolves at Molineux, while the Lilywhites put three past Burnley on home turf . Guardiola has only won one of his last three games against Spurs across all competitions, so the Spaniard will be determined to set the record straight.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the highly anticipated clash, the Man City boss provided an update on Foden and Rodri . The duo missed the club's one and only pre-season game against Palermo at the start of the month.
Foden and Rodri were omitted from the matchday squad last weekend, though they were in attendance. Guardiola said: "Rodri and Phil, in the last game they were out but for just the reason why – a lack of training and rhythm.

"They didn’t travel to Palermo, and the other guys were doing it all through pre-season. They were not [ready] for 90 minutes against Wolves, but they were ready and of course they are ready for tomorrow."
On Foden, Guardiola said: "Phil, what can I say? The last Premier League we won, he was massively important and the best Premier League player. In the last game [that season] against West Ham, he scored twice.
"Phil is a top-class and extraordinary player, and I try to convince him he can be better – he can read the situations better, but his joy to play he is unique. With Phil, the same applies as it does with Rodri and the consistency we are looking for."
Guardiola added: "He had the problem in his ankle, but he’s fine and much better. I never would doubt the quality of Phil’s and what he gives to us, so for him to be happy and play game, game, game and train, train, train [is what we want]… because in 90 minutes he will always give you something special.
"Maybe after the first season, he was a 6 or 7, and there was a little drop. If he learned a lesson from that that would be great. You can’t always be like you were, and he’s been incredibly consistent all these years, and this is what we’re looking for."
Rodri missed a large chunk of last season with a knee injury. Guardiola added: "I just want a consistent Rodri - that’s all. I don’t have any doubts about his potential and quality.

"He’s still so far the best player in the world until we elect a new one in a few months. I don’t have any doubts. Just consistency at training, weeks, training, games, minutes and after everything will be fine."
Guardiola was also very complimentary of Frank at his pre-match press conference. The Man City boss said: "It’s too early to know but I don’t have any doubts that Thomas will do an incredible job like he did at Brentford.
"He’s a top-class manager in different scenarios with different alternatives in terms of how they can play. We saw it and we suffered it at Brentford."
