Postecoglou is desperate to return to the Premier League after being axed by Spurs in the summer, fresh off the back of winning the Europa League.

And SunSport understands Forest is a potential destination for the Australian boss, who was subject of intense interest from Saudi club Al-Ahli over the summer.

Nuno set tongues wagging with his sensational comments in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's clash with Crystal Palace.

He said:  "I always had a very good relationship with the owner, last season we were very close and spoke on a daily basis.

"This season it is not so well [between us].

"But I always believe that dialogue is important because my concern is the squad and the season we have ahead of us.

"Our relationship has changed and we are not as close."

Nuno continued: "I'm being honest with you, I cannot say [our relationship] is the same, because it's not. The reason behind it? I don't know.

"What I said last week or two weeks ago, was my concern and why I was worried... because my job is always to try anticipate what's coming ahead of us, and that's what I said with respect.

"But the reality is that it's not what it used to be... it used to be a good, respectful relationship based on trust and sharing opinions, and now it's not so good."

Nuno, who signed a new three-year contract in June , added: "My job is clear: to manage the team, prepare the team well, trying to get them to the next level so we can take the best out of them.

"This is what I always do, and it's my major focus.

"But the club has different opinions...

"We know each other very well, and we all been in the industry for a while now. And where there's smoke, there's fire...

"So I know how things work, but I'm here to do my job.

"I understand. I'm worried. I'm the first one to be worried. I'm the first one to be concerned."

Forest next travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday August 24, with kick-off 2pm.
