Rafael da Silva tells Matheus Cunha why he 'needs to improve' after getting dropped

Matheus Cunha has struggled since arriving at Manchester United with ‘room for improvement,’ according to former star Rafael da Silva.

Amid interest from Newcastle United and Arsenal, United swooped to sign Cunha from Wolves for £62million during the summer transfer window.

He joined the club alongside Bryan Mbeumo , signed from Brentford for £65million as part of a new-look attack spearheaded by Benjamin Sesko with Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Ramus Hojlund all moved on by the club.

Mbeumo has a strong case for being United’s player of the season so far, heavily involved again in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Sunderland.

After a tough start, Sesko is also now showing promise with two goals in his last two appearances.

Cunha meanwhile is still to get off the mark for his new club and found himself benched at the weekend with Mason Mount taking his place and scoring the opener.

Cunha’a start to life at Old Trafford has also been disrupted by a hamstring injury but former United right-back Rafael admits he is so far struggling to live up to his price tag.

Cunha is not alone in struggling with a slow start however with the former United right-back insisting that applies to almost everyone in red this season.

‘Matheus Cunha, of course, hasn’t been doing great, but honestly, everyone at Manchester isn’t delivering, from the coach to the last player. Better performances, better results,’ Rafael told AceOdds .

‘It’s too early to talk about Matheus Cunha; I really like him as a player, I think he’s fantastic, but along with all the other players, I think there’s room for improvement.

‘It’s a thing that’s connected to him as it is to everyone else. I think everyone needs to know they have to improve, including Ruben Amorim.

‘That’s important; I think it’s everyone together. There’s no point in blaming each other; that’s what’s bad, and it’s too easy.’
