Report: Man United star has had enough of Ruben Amorim’s decisions and could leave
Kobbie Mainoo could leave Manchester United before the transfer deadline if a suitable offer arrives, according to TalkSport . The England international has been an unused substitute in United’s first two Premier League matches of the season, prompting questions over his role under new manager Ruben Amorim.

The 19-year-old midfielder, whose current deal expires in 2027, has yet to agree new terms with the club despite discussions earlier this year. Mainoo has made 72 appearances for United since debuting in a Carabao Cup tie against Charlton in 2023 and has long been regarded as one of the club’s brightest prospects.
Mainoo’s emergence in 2023-24 led to a regular first-team role, an England call-up and a Golden Boy nomination, but injuries in the 2024-25 campaign disrupted his momentum. Reports suggest the midfielder sought a salary in the region of £150,000 a week, but an agreement has not been reached.

Chelsea have previously been linked, while European clubs are said to be monitoring developments. United’s need to remain within profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) adds intrigue, as academy graduates provide 100 per cent profit on sales.
Amorim has been candid about Mainoo’s position, stating: “He’s fighting for the position now with Bruno and I change two midfielders. I let Mason Mount [play] there because we want to score a goal and when I changed I felt the team need to return to one holding midfielder near Bruno. So he (Mainoo) just needs to fight for the position with Bruno, as [it] should be at Manchester United . [Sometimes] he’s going to play with Bruno, but at the moment he’s fighting in training with Bruno for the position.”

While United’s reluctance to part with homegrown talent is clear, the financial incentive to sell remains significant. Mainoo’s departure would free funds to strengthen other areas, but his potential makes such a move a calculated risk. With the clock ticking on the transfer window, this decision could have major long-term consequences for both player and club.
The uncertainty surrounding Kobbie Mainoo is a worrying development for United fans. Supporters have watched him blossom from academy graduate to England international, embodying the type of homegrown talent fans want to see thrive at Old Trafford. Selling him now, particularly with his potential ceiling, feels like a decision driven more by financial constraints than footballing sense.
The mention of PSR considerations adds weight to those fears. Academy graduates being viewed primarily as profit generators rather than key contributors risks undermining the club’s identity. Fans have been desperate for stability and smart squad planning, and losing one of their brightest prospects could send the opposite message.
Amorim’s comments about competition with Bruno Fernandes make sense in a tactical context, but some will see this as a sign Mainoo is not being prioritised in midfield planning. While competition is healthy, prolonged time on the bench could stifle his growth.
There is also a concern that selling him could come back to haunt United, particularly if he thrives elsewhere. Fans are calling for clarity from the board: whether this is part of a long-term rebuild or a financial decision. For now, Mainoo’s situation is a reflection of a club still balancing ambition with financial realities.
