Ruben Amorim sometimes ‘hate his players’ after a defeat, also admitting he is often left considering quitting as Manchester United boss.
The Portuguese head coach endured a dreadful first campaign in England after taking the reins last November but after a full pre-season and a new attack brought in at the cost of £200million, there was renewed hope at Old Trafford this summer.
That has been extinguished in less than two weeks with United winless after their opening three games. A defeat to Arsenal and draw away to Fulham in the Premier League was followed by a calamitous Carabao Cup exit against Grimsby Town on penalties.
United host newly-promoted Burnley on Saturday where anything other than a comprehensive win will pile more pressure on Amorim.
The former Sporting CP has not shied away from speaking openly on the challenge he faces at the club, describing the current team as the worst in United history in January.
In the aftermath of Thursday’s defeat, he said his players had ‘spoken loudly’ with their performance, adding ‘something has to change’ and ‘you are not going to change 22 players again.’
Speaking ahead of the Burnley game, Amorim said: ‘I know that when I speak these things, to be really honest, every time that we have a defeat like that, I will be like that.’

‘Sometimes I hate my players, sometimes I love my players; this is my way of doing things. I am going to be like that. In that moment, I was so frustrated.
‘You have experienced people talking about the way I should perform with the media, to be more calm.
‘I am not going to be like that. I am trying to accept that and I am going to be who I am, that’s why I have the passion I have.
‘In that moment, I was disappointed. We had a good pre-season and were playing better.
‘That kind of performance, I was really disappointed with everything. But now, it is a new game.’
