Ruben Amorim is NOT the bookies' favourite to be the first Premier League manager sacked this season - despite Man United's Carabao Cup humiliation at the hands of Grimsby Town

Ruben Amorim 's future in charge of Manchester United is being questioned by many after suffering his lowest point on Wednesday night, but he is not the bookmakers' favourite to be the first Premier League manager sacked.

Amorim looked helpless in the pouring rain as he watched his listless side deservedly lose at League Two Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round.

The catastrophic defeat only adds to a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign which has yielded a home loss to Arsenal and a draw at Fulham so far to leave them 16th in the table.

As a result of all that, bookmaker Betfair have Amorim as 13/8 odds to leave Old Trafford.

In addition, they have the 40-year-old at 8/11 to still be Red Devils head coach on Christmas Day and 1/1 for him not to be.

However, despite all of the above he is still not the bookies' favourite to be the first Premier League boss to be relieved of his duties this season.

West Ham manager Graham Potter is the bookmakers' favourite to be sacked first at 11/10

That fate has been bestowed upon Graham Potter who is enduring equally as miserable a start at West Ham United this season.

Potter, who has been given odds of 11/10, has seen West Ham lose at new boys Sunderland and bitter rivals Chelsea in the league, while being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by a second-string Wolves side.

Aside from those two, Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo rounds out the top three with odds of 5/2.

Nuno's tenure at the City Ground has been speculated after his public comments about his relationship with Evangelos Marinakis has 'changed' this summer - and not in a good way.

Speaking post-match on Wednesday, an apoplectic Amorim didn't hold back about his players.

'I just have to say sorry to our fans,' he said. 'The way we started the game, we were not even here. When everything is so important in our club, everything that happened, it's a problem in our club, we should do so much better.

'In the penalties, the feeling is the same. I think football was really fair today - the best team won.

'It should be my job to understand what happened. Again, I'm really sorry for our fans.

'The support that they have given me, always with all of the defeats they always help the team. Today I have nothing to say. I am really sorry. It's too much sometimes.

'I think the best team won, the only team that was on the pitch. The best players lose because one team can win against any group of players, and I think the team and the players spoke really loud today, so that's it.'

Having repeated several times that his United players 'spoke really loud', Amorim was asked what he meant by the comment.

'I think it's really clear what they spoke, so let's move on from this day,' he replied. 'I think it was clear for everybody what happened today.

'The way we start the game without any intensity, all the idea of the pressure, we were completely lost and that's why I think they spoke really loud.

'That is more than a result. That is the biggest problem in the team. I think it was really clear today.

'You cannot change everything in one summer. You need to win games. You need to not show this kind of performance.

'I think this is a little bit the limit. I think something has to change. In this moment, we need to focus on the weekend and then we have time to think.'
