Senne Lammens: Amorim ready to start Man United new boy against City

Senne Lammens’ arrival at Manchester United has added to fans’ optimism this season. The Premier League giants invested heavily in the attack this summer, bringing in Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo.

However, the first four games of the season suggested that the goalkeeping position was Ruben Amorim’s bane.

The Red Devils conceded six goals in four games, with neither Altay Bayindir nor Andre Onana managing to convince.

United moved quickly to address the issue before the end of the summer, bringing in Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day for a reported £18m fee .

Lammens is highly rated for his shot stopping abilities, and has drawn comparisons with Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois.

The 23 year old arrived at Old Trafford just ahead of the international break and will have time to settle down in his new surroundings. There have already been calls to start Lammens against Manchester City in the upcoming Manchester Derby on September 14.

Since the Belgian’s arrival, there have also been some interesting developments in the goalkeeping department at United.

Recent reports have suggested that the Red Devils are close to offloading Andre Onana to Trabzonspor, although an official confirmation is awaited. The Cameroonian hasn’t featured in the Premier League this season, with Amorim selecting Altay Bayindir for the first three games.

However, Lammens’ arrival could now cost the Turkish goalkeeper his place in the team ahead of the Manchester Derby.

Bayindir’s struggles between the sticks may have prompted Amorim to consider a change in the position. The 27 year old was at fault for the goal in the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, while he has looked shaky during set pieces as well this season.

According to Football Insider , Amorim is now ready to hand Lammens his debut this weekend against the noisy neighbours.

The Belgian will have the chance to impress Amorim this week in training to further stake his claim for a starting place.

Lammens is seen as a long-term solution to the Red Devils’ conundrum. They even chose the youngster ahead of Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez due to his age.

“Baby Courtois” will now be hoping he can win fans over in the fabled Manchester Derby.
