‘They have been clever….’: Former Reds star explains how Man United have outfoxed Liverpool so far
Stephen Warnock feels Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United have managed to frustrate Liverpool at Anfield as they lead 1-0 at half-time.
Manchester United have dominated the proceedings against Liverpool away from home. While many expected this to be a massive challenge for Ruben Amorim’s team, they have certainly delivered one of their best performances so far this season.
The Red Devils bagged a goal within the first two minutes of the game, thanks to some sensational work by Bryan Mbeumo, and they have a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Stephen Warnock believes Liverpool have been completely outfoxed by the visitors, who have been the more proactive team on the night.
Amorim’s team might not have had the majority of the ball, but they have still managed to frustrate Arne Slot’s team. They have been more street smart with how they have gone about things. The Red Devils have constantly won little fouls and free kicks and haven’t allowed Liverpool to dictate the tempo of the game for too long.
While speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live at Anfield, former Liverpool defender Warnock said: “If there is anything to look at in this game is that Manchester United have been more streetwise. They have been clever in the way they have frustrated Liverpool, winning little fouls and free kicks. They have made this Anfield crowd really anxious and nervous.”

Manchester United have looked quite comfortable on the ball, and they have created quite a few chances in the first half. Every time Liverpool have tried to dominate the ball and build momentum, Amorim’s team have found a way to win a free kick.
They haven’t allowed the Merseyside club’s midfielders to do as they please. More importantly, they have ensured the Anfield crowd doesn’t get too involved. They have managed to keep the home fans anxious and nervous.
A similar performance in the second half could help them secure all three points against the defending champions. A positive result at Anfield could be a massive boost for Amorim’s team, who haven’t been at their best since the start of the new campaign.
