This Nigerian goalkeeper no longer wants to be called "André Onana"
Adebayo Adeleye has had enough. The Super Eagles goalkeeper from Nigeria is asking the public to stop comparing him to André Onana , the Cameroonian shot-stopper for Manchester United .
Currently in camp with the Nigerian national team for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, Adeleye voiced his frustration over numerous comments confusing him with André Onana :
I am Adebayo Adeleye, a Nigerian goalkeeper. Some people mistake me for André Onana, but we are two different players.
The 24-year-old points out that he respects the Cameroonian's career, but insists on their different nationalities and career paths:
I am proud to be Nigerian and I want my identity to be respected.
Proud of his roots, the young keeper reiterates that he represents Nigeria and wishes for that to be acknowledged. It's a clear statement. Now, only time will tell if it resonates with the fans in question.
