UEFA to decide on Villarreal-Barcelona Miami game in a week

T he UEFA Executive Committee will hold its next meeting in Tirana, Albania, on Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 14:00 to 17:00. The main purpose of the meeting is to establish the venues for the finals of the 2027 European competitions. The following venues are pending assignment:

o 2027 UEFA Champions League final for which Madrid (Metropolitano) and Baku are competing.

o 2027 UEFA Women's Champions League Final

o 2026 UEFA Futsal Champions League Finals

o 2027 UEFA European Under-19 Futsal Championship

o 2027 UEFA Women's Futsal Championship

Another issue to be addressed will be the request by the Spanish Football Federation for a LaLiga match (Villarreal-Barcelona) on December 20 to be played in Miami.

Alexander Ceferin , UEFA president, although he has made it clear that he does not like to see fans having to travel to another country to watch a domestic championship match, he also admitted that UEFA has little reason to prevent the match from taking place, as FIFA recently approved this.

Earlier that day, from 9:00, a grassroots football festival will be held at the FSHF's House of Football in Tirana, as part of UEFA's Football in Schools programme. The opening ceremony will be attended by UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin and Albanian Football Association President Armand Duka. One hundred boys and girls from local schools will take part in the festival, accompanied by UEFA ambassadors Luis Figo and Aljosa Asanovic, as well as former players and local celebrities.
