Unhappy Prem manager wanted by Leverkusen to replace Erik ten Hag

CRYSTAL PALACE manager Oliver Glasner is one of the candidates Bayer Leverkusen are considering after terminating the contract of Erik ten Hag, SunSport has been told.

The German club decided it was time for a change just two games into the season and have identified the Palace boss as an ideal candidate.

Glasner is reportedly unhappy at Palace after what has been a challenging summer, during which the club lost midfield maestro Eberechi Eze just days before the close of the transfer window.

He is currently in talks with the board and is determined to block the sale of defender Marc Guehi, who is also close to joining Liverpool .

SunSport has been told that Leverkusen are keen on Glasner, who they know is refusing to sign a new deal at Crystal Palace, despite having just one year remaining on his contract.

Sources close to Glasner say he was hoping for a better summer transfer window, especially after helping the club qualify for Europe by winning the FA Cup last season.

Last summer, Palace had similar problems in the window, only to rush in with three or four signings just before the deadline.

That last-minute activity meant it took a while before the new players could properly settle in.

Leverkusen are aware of the Austrian manager’s frustrations and will attempt to lure him as they search for a new head coach.

The Eagles have been sensational under Glasner and are currently enjoying an unbeaten start to the season, despite having already faced tough opponents like Chelsea and Aston Villa in their first three games.

They also won the Community Shield against Liverpool, coming from behind twice to win on penalties against a very strong Reds side.

Before joining Palace, Glasner won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Last summer, he reportedly turned down the chance to join Bayern Munich when they were searching for a manager, before they ultimately appointed Vincent Kompany .

It remains to be seen whether he would turn down Leverkusen if offered the job.
