Who is Senne Lammens? Manchester United's new £18.1m goalkeeper set to rival Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir

Belgian arrives into an unsettled goalkeeping department at Old Trafford

The Red Devils had been tentatively in the market for a new shot-stopper amid uncertainty over the futures of both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir .

Bayindir, the Turkish international, has started the campaign as Ruben Amorim’s first choice in the Premier League, after Onana suffered a hamstring injury that forced him to miss the entirety of pre-season.

The Cameroonian returned to action in the Carabao Cup defeat by Grimsby Town , but made an error for the Mariners’ second goal at Blundell Park.

Now, United are bringing in another body to their goalkeeping ranks, which throws Onana and Bayindir’s futures at Old Trafford into doubt once more.

But who is the new man that Amorim and United have plumped for? Standard Sport takes a look...

Lammens, 23, is a Belgian youth international who joined Antwerp from Club Brugge back in 2023 on a free transfer.

He has played 64 times for the Belgian Pro League side, and won the Belgian Super Cup with them in 2023.

He was called up to the Belgium senior squad for the first time in March 2025.

Last term, he played 30 times and kept seven clean sheets, but he has not featured at all this season due to the interest from United.

Lammens is seen as the long-term successor for Thibaut Courtois between the sticks for Belgium.

Comfortable distributing off both feet, he is a ball-playing goalkeeper that suits playing out from the back.

He is not the finished article by any means, having just completed his first season a first-choice goalkeeper, but his huge potential is the reason why United have chosen him over Emiliano Martinez, the Aston Villa ‘keeper, who the Red Devils reportedly enquired about as a back-up option .
