Xabi Alonso has already won over Real Madrid players in his early days at the club
According to a report from Defensa Central , Xabi Alonso has already left a strong mark on Real Madrid’s dressing room despite only being in charge for a short time.
The outlet mentions that players were reportedly taken aback by his approach since the FIFA Club World Cup, with the new coach making it clear that no one is untouchable in his team selections.
The most telling sign came in La Liga, when Vinicius Jr. was surprisingly substituted against Real Oviedo.
That decision sparked debate but underlined Alonso’s philosophy. As the coach himself warned, he “doesn’t side with anyone when it comes to choosing his starting lineups.”
His choice to bench a star like Vinícius was a clear message to the squad that reputation alone will not guarantee a place in the XI.
Vinicius, once regarded as one of Madrid’s most decisive players, has seen his influence dip in recent months.
With Alonso pushing for more internal competition, this move was described as a “controversial decision” that “showed that he won’t waver.”

One of the lessons Alonso has drawn from last season is the danger of overworking players.
Injuries and fatigue left Madrid vulnerable, and the new staff are determined not to repeat the same mistake.
As a result, rotations are expected to be far more frequent than in previous years, with several players being given fresh chances to prove themselves.
Another example of Alonso’s strict stance is the case of Rodrygo Goes. As the outlet noted, “His role has become that of a substitute for Vinícius in that role,” but the coach is not settling for fixed hierarchies.
He has already hinted that “will give him prominence if he performs,” leaving the door open for Rodrygo to challenge for Vinícius’ spot on the left wing.
