Adam Wharton makes big decision about late move to Man United

Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has reportedly made a decision regarding a potential late switch to Manchester United .

Heading into the summer transfer window, United’s primary objective was bolstering their attacking department – something they have since achieved with the additions of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

With slightly over a week left until the window closes, United are now almost entirely focused on landing a midfielder.

The Red Devils explored a move for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba but eventually postponed a concrete swoop until next summer due to his massive price tag.

United are still looking at alternatives and Wharton is believed to feature prominently on their list.

Wharton has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers in February 2024. He has impressed with his calm and assured performances in the middle of the park, solidifying his reputation as one of the Premier League’s finest midfielders.

United have already scouted Wharton and there is genuine admiration for him within Old Trafford.

Now, an update on the situation has emerged and it’s a pretty positive one for United.

According to TEAMtalk , Wharton is Ruben Amorim’s “dream target” ahead of deadline day on September 1. But just like with Baleba, convincing Palace to part with Wharton will be difficult.

With Eberechi Eze closing in on a move to Arsenal, the Eagles have little to no appetite of letting another one of their star players depart.

TEAMtalk note that Wharton remains open to becoming the latest addition to Amorim’s ranks. He is attracted to the Portuguese coach’s vision and United’s rich history. However, the 21-year-old does not plan to push for a move and intends to remain fully respectful of Palace, who have given him the platform to shine.

The report adds, “Palace are in a very strong negotiating position and could demand upwards of £60 million for the midfielder, a price that reflects his growing reputation and potential.”

“United’s interest is undeterred, with sources cautioning it would be ‘unwise’ to rule out a formal approach before the window closes.”

Amorim is a fan of the England international and sees the value he can bring to the team – vision and control in midfield.
