Chelsea might be really good – or not that good. We don’t know which yet
Chelsea have started the season well in the Premier League and lie second in the table after 3 games as we reach the international break.
But are the Blues actually any good?
There is a strain of thought that this team aren’t yet at the level their place in the table would tell you. While they’ve got two wins and a draw, there are major asterisks by all of them.
The first game of the season we faced Crystal Palace, who are a good team. We weren’t able to win. In fact, we barely created anything.
Then we played West Ham, who are terrible. Beating them, even as handily as we did, doesn’t tell us much.
Our third game was against Fulham, who are solid. We did beat them – but it took a couple of VAR calls to bail us out.
While we’ve looked nice and solid in defence, In none of the three games have we really looked like a cohesive attacking unit. We’re great at set pieces, but it’s hard to see us beating top teams in the Champions League or winning the title without improving our attacking play in possession.
Then there’s the counter argument, neatly summed up in this Tweet from CFC Daily:

Chelsea’s last 19 games.
Since that fateful day at Craven Cottage where Tyrique George and then Pedro Neto scored to turn the game around and turn our season around, we’ve been on a ridiculous run spanning the end of the season, the final stages of the Conference League, the Club World Cup and now the start of the 2025/2026 season.
It’s hard to argue with those facts – this team are racking up results and winning trophies, even if they haven’t quite fully clicked into gear in attack yet.
If anything, it’s exciting to think that they’re picking up these wins while still in transition. If they really come together as a team over the next month, there’s no limit to what they can achieve this season and beyond.
Which side of the argument are you on?
